Tyler Christopher, renowned for his award-winning role in “General Hospital,” has tragically passed away at the age of 50. The sad news was confirmed by his former “General Hospital” co-star, Maurice Benard, who shared the details of Tyler’s passing on Instagram.
According to Benard, Tyler Christopher suffered a cardiac event in his San Diego apartment, leading to his untimely demise. In his heartfelt tribute, Benard described Tyler as a talented actor who brought joy to his fans through his performances and emphasized Tyler’s commitment to advocating for better mental health and substance use treatment.

Tyler Christopher’s contribution to the world of soap operas was significant. He portrayed Nikolas Cassadine on “General Hospital” from 1996 to 2016, winning the hearts of viewers and earning a well-deserved Daytime Emmy for his role. In addition to his work on “General Hospital,” Christopher also made a mark as Stefan DiMera on “Days of Our Lives” from 2018 to 2019.
General Hospital Executive Producer Frank Valentini expressed his sorrow over the loss of Tyler Christopher, describing him as kind, incredibly talented, and a beloved member of the “GH” family. Valentini extended heartfelt sympathies to Tyler’s loved ones during this difficult time.
Tyler Christopher’s personal life included a marriage to former ESPN reporter Brienne Pedigo in 2008. The couple reportedly divorced in 2021 and shared two children, Greysun James Christopher and Boheme Christopher. Tyler was also previously married to Eva Longoria, known for her role in “Desperate Housewives,” from 2002 to 2004.
Tyler Christopher’s life took a challenging turn when he was placed under the guardianship of his sister, Susan Asmo Baker, in 2019. This decision followed a period of alcohol withdrawal during which he experienced a fall, head injury, and life-saving surgery due to internal bleeding. While hospitalized, his sister filed for guardianship.
During this time, Tyler Christopher made allegations that Susan Asmo Baker misused funds that were meant for his guardianship, diverting up to $40,000 for her own expenses, including credit card payments and buying a laptop for her son. Susan Asmo Baker denied these allegations, leading to a complex legal battle.
Tyler Christopher’s struggles with alcohol became public in May when he was arrested at the Hollywood Burbank Airport for public intoxication. He was released on bail, and this wasn’t his first encounter with the law related to public intoxication. In 2019, he had been arrested for a similar incident when he fell asleep in the back of an Uber. Christopher pled guilty, and a judge denied law enforcement’s request for him to attend an alcohol treatment program.
Tyler Christopher’s journey was marked by both professional success and personal challenges, and his passing is a loss mourned by many in the entertainment industry.
