Winners Announced for the 54th Annual GMA Dove Awards: A Night of Music and Impact
Nashville, Tenn. (October 20th, 2023) – The 54th Annual GMA Dove Awards, hosted by Tauren Wells, dazzled a sold-out audience in Nashville, Tennessee on October 17th, 2023. The event, featuring impactful speeches, unique performances, and surprise guests, aired exclusively on TBN, The TBN App, and SiriusXM The Message, captivating viewers across genres including Gospel, Latin, Worship, Pop, and Southern Gospel. Brandon Lake emerged as the night’s biggest winner, clinching four GMA Dove Awards, including Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year. The coveted Song of the Year award went to “Goodness Of God,” honoring songwriters Ben Fielding, Ed Cash, Jason Ingram, Jenn Johnson, and Brian Johnson. Tasha Cobbs Leonard took home Gospel Worship Album of the Year and Traditional Gospel Recorded Song of the Year.
The night was replete with surprises, including performances by Jordin Sparks, for KING + COUNTRY, and Pastor Mike Jr. collaborating with Ricky Dillard. Harmonious performances by Gospel Hall of Fame members Take 6 with Ernie Haase & Signature Sound enthralled the audience. A special tribute to Hip Hop featured dynamic performances from Hulvey, Social Club Misfits, GRITS, and TobyMac revisiting the 2002 hit “Ooh Aah (My Life Be Like).”
Host Tauren Wells delivered a poignant sermon addressing the conflict in Israel, emphasizing unity and peace. “This conflict will not end until Jesus is the Lord of every nation, tribe, and tongue,” Wells declared, encouraging the audience to stand in solidarity with the people of God.
Esteemed figure Dr. Bobby Jones received the Jackie Patillo Leadership Award, recognizing his immense contributions to Gospel music. A member of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, Jones’ impact on the industry has been profound since 1976, making him a deserving recipient of this honor.
